Stop the Closure of New Road Car Park, Kendal

Liberal controlled SLDC is planning to spend about £400,000 converting New Road Car Park to a landscaped leisure area. New Road car park has free parking for 180 cars and is well used by rural commuters coming into Kendal to work.

The closure of this parking facility will leave rural workers with no option other than expensive pay and display parking. The campaign run by Westmorland Gazette showed that 89% of readers wanted to retain the car park. The council are proceeding with the development despite the fact that there is no money in the council budget for this scheme.
