I would like to thank all the residents who contacted me to compliment our County Highways staff on the excellent work they have done in re-surfacing the footways on Kents Bank Road and The Esplanade.
I have passed on these remarks to our Highways Team which included the understanding and willingness to accommodate and facilitate the business community of the Town.
The County Budget has been passed with no increase in Council Tax again this year. Unfortunately the ruling Lib/Lab Administration have pushed through the bus subsidy cuts and on-street parking charges against strong Conservative opposition.
This will mean the 532 bus which runs around the Cartmel Peninsula is under threat. I will be working with County officers and the bus operator to see if some form of service can be maintained. This is a well-used service which has over 33,000 passengers a year but it still has a subsidy of over £45,000 a year. The frequency of the service may be adjustable to make it more commercially viable.
On street parking charges will be implemented later this year in the larger towns in the County. I am hoping we can hang out until the next County elections so we can put a stop to these charges coming into our smaller towns by electing a Conservative Council to run Cumbria.
Regards
Bill Wearing Conservative County Councillor Grange Division
